The Plett Coastal Camino

The Plett Coastal Camino  from REAL CAPE ADVENTURES cc has been launched. The company has been operating sea kayak adventures in South Africa and beyond since 1994 and established a kayak route on the famous Camino in Spain in 2012 and subsequently in Plettenberg Bay (“Plett”), as the “Cape Kayak Camino”, spearheading a new trend in South Africa. To meet demands the original Kayak Camino has now been expanded to include both hiking and kayaking to provide participants with the best experience of Plettenberg Bay.

This guided tour is called a “Camino” as, like with the original one in Spain, its focus is on
mindfulness, or being-in-the-moment; a deliberate awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily
sensations and environment, facilitated by hiking and kayaking and minimising intrusions which
may spoil the experience. Whether it’s a spiritual or merely a personal journey for participants
there’s ample opportunity to reflect and to come away with a renewed sense of connection and
purpose, besides just having fun and lapping up the surroundings and enjoying the experience. Check out Plett Coastal Camino, the new website now live.

The Route

The Plett Coastal Camino (Hike & Kayak) takes in the whole coast stretching from the incomparable Robberg Peninsula in the west, towards Nature’s Valley in the east, with the
coastal town of Plettenberg Bay in the middle. The whole is split by the Keurbooms Lagoon and River which has cut a deep gorge through the surrounding mountains. Lined by a deep forest of indigenous trees with sandy coves in-between, and host to many species of birds and animals, the placid lagoon and stunning gorge are a kayaker’s delight.

  1.  Available Feb to July and October and November, excluding Public Holidays.
    2. Group sizes 6 to 12 and upon request, larger. Ages 16+. Younger by special request.
    3. No skills required, just ordinary health, fitness and lots of enthusiasm. We use only the stable, easy to balance PaddleYak kayaks so no previous kayaking experience is required.
    4. All options are guided and include transfers and portaging of luggage from venue to venue.
